Motorcycles with a Bulgarian Toll
Bulgaria Vignette for Motorcycles
Is a Bulgarian vignette required for motorcycles? Find out the answer in our informative post.
About Bulgarian vignette for motorcycles
You cannot obtain a Bulgarian vignette for motorcycles, as single-track motor vehicles can travel on the national roads of Bulgaria without an official vignette. There are no additional fee payments to be made or extra tolls to be covered – you can use the motorways and expressways in Bulgaria freely. There is also no need to register your motorcycle’s license plate number in the national toll system.
A Bulgarian vignette is only required for vehicles with a total weight of up to 3.5t, such as passenger cars and camper vans. In such a situation, a suitable adhesive toll sticker may be obtained at the petrol stations and at the border crossing. A digital vignette may also be purchased online – the procedure is conducted from home, and the electronic vignette is sent to the driver’s e-mail address. In both cases, it is essential to state the vehicle category and provide its registration number.
If you are planning to drive on Bulgarian high-speed roads, it is mandatory to have a valid vignette. Throughout the entire country, police officers conduct random control checks on the drivers – they will verify your identity, make sure your vignette remains valid, and check your level of sobriety. Remember to purchase a suitable electronic vignette or adhesive toll sticker before your travel – select a validity period of 2 days, 7 days, 30 days, 90 days, or 1 year. Lack of a vignette will result in a fine.
Although it is not necessary to have a vignette while driving to Bulgaria on a motorcycle, it is advised to check current updates on the subject before the journey. It is possible that a separate vignette for motorcycles may be introduced by the Bulgarian Government in the future.
