About Bulgarian vignette for tunnels
As for now, there is no separate Bulgarian vignette for tunnels. However, if you are driving a vehicle under 3.5t on the motorways in Bulgaria, you are required to possess a valid vignette. You can obtain the adhesive toll sticker at border crossings petrol stations or buy the digital vignette sticker online.
The online toll system, also widely known as BGTOLL, was introduced by the Bulgarian authorities in 2019. The main goal of the electronic toll system was to facilitate the vignette purchase procedure for foreign visitors and encourage more travelers to visit Bulgaria. Due to its huge success, it is possible that the adhesive toll stickers may be completely replaced by online toll charges in the future.
In order to complete the online purchase of your electronic vignette Bulgaria, fill in the registration form with relevant information (vehicle category, license plate numbers). Then, cover the processing fee using a selected online payment method. Once the procedure is complete, a confirmation notice will be sent to your e-mail address. The vignette will be electronically linked to your vehicle registration number.
A Bulgarian vignette online should be obtained by all visitors driving on toll roads in vehicles with a maximum permissible weight of up to 3.5t. A valid toll sticker works as proof of covering the mandatory toll payment for using high-speed roads in Bulgaria. If you are driving a vehicle weighing more than 3.5t (truck, bus, coach), you need to use a distance-based toll system – Route Pass.
Currently, there are five different Bulgarian vignette types available for international travelers. Depending on the time you would like to spend driving on the Bulgarian toll roads, you should obtain a suitable toll sticker. During the registration, select a vignette valid for 2 days, 7 days, 30 days, 90 days, or an entire year. If you do not purchase a vignette before travel, it may be obtained at a toll station.
Keep in mind that traveling through Bulgarian territory without a valid vignette is against the law. If you are caught transpassing by the officers, you will be required to pay a fine of up to 3,000 BGN.
