About Vignette Control in Romania
Romania vignette control can be done by the proper authorities while driving in Romania. Rovinieta, or e-vignette Romania, is a must-have for everyone who plans to use toll roads in the country. The system, introduced in 2010 by the government, enables buying vignettes online without putting a physical toll sticker on the windscreen. It is convenient and simple.
Without a digital vignette, you are not allowed to use motorways and other tollways in Romania. The proper authorities can scan your license plate number through the camera systems and check if you paid for the ride. If not, you risk at least a €100 fine.
You can select a few types of electronic vignette Romania depending on the vehicle category and validity period: a 1-day, a 7-day, a 30-day, a 90-day, or a 12-month vignette (note that a 1-day vignette is not available for A and B categories).
The process of getting a digital vignette requires three steps: providing information, covering the fee, and receiving an email with confirmation. That’s all. You can do everything electronically from any part of the world.
What is more, it is worth knowing you can transfer your rovinieta remotely or in writing in case of a registration number change. It is a convenient option. Also, you can check the validity period of your vignette online.
Fines and penalties
In Romania, an e-vignette is a necessary document for travelers who plan to use toll roads in the country legally. There are exceptions to this rule for temporarily registered cars and motorcycles. The rest of the road users must obtain a vignette.
Vehicles without a valid permit will be punished with a fine of €100 or more. Thanks to the camera systems in Romania, your plate number will be seen. Then, the special services will determine if you paid the fee.
It is advisable to check all the information before the trip to avoid inconveniences. Remember to buy the e-vignette earlier, as you will come across additional stress and problems without it.
Vignette exemption
Temporarily registered cars with red numbers and motorcycles are an exception from getting a vignette in Romania on the tollways. The rest vehicles must be registered in the system. Otherwise, a fine of at least €100 will be imposed.
In order to check the validity of your vignette, you need to access the website of the National Company for Road Infrastructure Management or other online sites. Only data is required for a check.
